Strong women behind logistics and transport at Distrilog

At Distrilog, many female colleagues make a difference every day. To mark International Women's Day, we are putting five of them in the spotlight: Fien, Ellen, Kitty, Rana, and Karen. In various roles—from driver to manager—they are helping to build a sector that has long been dominated by men.

Inspiration close to home

For Fien and Rana, their greatest source of inspiration is close to home: their mother. They proved that a career can be perfectly combined with family life and that women can lead with equal conviction and strength. That example gave them the confidence to pursue their own ambitions. Karen, a trained nurse, draws her inspiration from Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale proved as early as the nineteenth century that women can take on strong leadership roles.

Equal opportunities in the workplace

At Distrilog Group, they experience a working environment where respect and talent are central. They point out that motivation, skills, and perseverance are decisive factors, not gender. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement. Kitty, a driver in Olen, points out the practical challenges of the job. Combining a twelve-hour working day with family life is not always easy.

Unfortunately, according to Fien, social expectations for men and women still differ within our society. For example, when men work less to spend more time with their families, it is often seen as courageous. With women, it is quickly taken for granted. Karen also refers to Equal Pay Day, which shows that women in many sectors still earn less for the same job.

Self-confidence is key

Kitty encourages women to follow their own path:“I enjoy driving for Distrilog and love the freedom this job offers. Sitting inside for eight hours a day would not be for me.” The message from our strong women to young women is clear: believe in yourself and seize opportunities when they arise. Women should not put themselves last. They should be encouraged to pursue careers and follow their ambitions.
