Distrilog welcomes Supply Chain Management students in Vilvoorde
Last week, our site in Vilvoorde (Cargovil) welcomed no fewer than 45 Supply Chain Management students from Odisee university college in Brussels. During their project week, they worked on a case provided by Distrilog. Our Cargovil site manager, Gert van Rillaer, welcomed the students and gave them an extensive explanation about Distrilog and how we operate. He then introduced the case and guided the group on a tour through the warehouse.
Improving the logistics flow
For the assignment, the students were challenged to improve the logistics flow for one of our customers. They started from a greenfield situation, meaning they were free to design the warehouse entirely according to their own insights.
The assignment consisted of two parts: an analytical phase in which they examined the current situation, and a practical phase in which they had to develop solutions for the identified improvement points. To create a realistic picture, they received detailed data on inbound, outbound, storage, FG (finished goods) and EG (empty goods).
Presentation
On Friday, Distrilog was invited to Odisee university college, where the students presented their work. Our site manager Gert was part of the jury and evaluated the students based on the content of the case.
We were very pleased to see that several groups had critically considered the layout of their new warehouse. Their sketches were clear, and they had clearly taken Gert’s tips and tricks to heart.
A valuable learning experience for the students and a first step into the world of logistics!
