Distrilog obtains ISO 14083.2023 Certification

04-08-2025

Distrilog Transport was proud to receive the ISO 14083:2023 certificate this year, demonstrating the company's excellence in quantifying and reporting CO₂ emissions within transport chains. This international standard sets the new benchmark for the harmonised calculation of greenhouse gas emissions in multimodal transport chains, including transport flows and hub activities.

Why ISO14083:2023?

ISO 14083:2023 provides a clear methodology for determining CO₂ emissions from both passenger and freight transport, taking into account emissions from vehicles and transition points such as transhipment points (hubs).

The complexity at Distrilog

Distrilog works with a complex model of internally organised transport flows, external subcontractors and DHB partners. We use our own hubs in Triton, Olen and Jumet, and also engage the hubs of DHB partners. Each of these links – transport elements and hub processes – has its own emission parameters and system boundaries as provided for in ISO 14083:2023. These links must be quantified and allocated separately according to the methodology for transport and hub operation categories.

Primary versus secondary: our data choice

A crucial asset in our case is the use of primary data: actual consumption data per specific vehicle or operational mechanism. This brings us much closer to the actual CO₂ emissions than when working with secondary data such as normalised averages. As a result, we offer increased accuracy and reliability in our reporting.

CO₂ tracking per customer and per shipment

Distrilog calculates the CO₂ emissions resulting from our services not only at company level, but also per customer and even per individual shipment. Thanks to a detailed system that records every transport chain element and every hub transit, we can report exactly how much CO₂ was emitted for a specific customer and for each individual shipment – a unique asset in the sustainable logistics market.

Broad relevance and extra context

The introduction of ISO 14083:2023 fits seamlessly with recent international trends in sustainability reporting, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which requires organisations to report emissions in their value chains transparently. In this way, Distrilog is proactively positioning itself within the evolution towards stricter expectations in terms of emissions transparency within the logistics sector.

An important milestone for Distrilog Transport

Obtaining ISO 14083:2023 certification is a significant step forward for Distrilog Transport. It confirms our commitment – both technical and strategic – to sustainability and customer-focused precision. Thanks to our expertise in working with primary data, our hub-by-hub and subcontractor-by-subcontractor approach, and our customer-by-customer and shipment-by-shipment reporting, we are taking a solid step towards a carbon-conscious future. This certification is therefore a valuable asset for both our company and our customers in the pursuit of logistics that are both efficient and environmentally responsible.
