Distrilog KOTK 1000KM - 2025
On Thursday May 29, 2025, the time had come once again: the 14th edition of the 1000 Kilometres for Kom op tegen Kanker was kicked off at the Grote Markt in Mechelen. Once again, two Distrilog cycling teams were ready to give it their all for 1000 kilometres in support of a good cause.

It all began on the first day with a ride to Buggenhout and back. Jeroen and Ruben were ready at 6:55 AM to embark on a beautiful journey through Breendonk, Temse, Kemzeke, and Dendermonde, eventually arriving in Buggenhout. At 2:30 PM, Steven took over from the pair to cycle the same route back to Mechelen from Buggenhout, maintaining an impressive speed of 30 kilometres per hour. At the end of this first day, sad news reached the peloton: team captain Ludo Dierckxsens had fallen ill during his ride and later passed away in the hospital. A dark cloud over the first day — everyone’s thoughts were, of course, with the family of the deceased.

On day 2, Ivo & Lieven set off at 7:10 AM in the same ‘light blue’ peloton for their stage towards Essen. Via Olen and Tielen, they eventually reached Essen around 12:15 PM and enjoyed the bright sunshine there! Jeroen and Bert picked up the baton in the afternoon and set course back to Mechelen at a speed of 30 kilometres per hour. Another successful day for the Distrilog teams: halfway through the event, every one of the team had arrived safe and sound.

The third day promised to be the hottest. Brent & Korneel were well prepared and had brought enough water to stay hydrated during the first 125 kilometres. Passing through Westmeerbeek and Zonhoven, they arrived in Peer around noon, riding at a speed of 27 km/h. There they met Philip and Ruben, who cycled back from Peer to Mechelen via the same route, but at a different pace. They rode into Mechelen again around 7 PM under a warm evening sun.

The final day towards Bruges was kicked off by Koen and Johan. Johan rode in a different peloton through Willebroek & Puurs via Sint-Niklaas to Bruges, while Koen sped through Tisselt and Breendonk, passing through Ghent (with a stop at the well-known “Kuipke”) to reach the same midday stop. Once they arrived in Bruges, Nicolas replaced Johan, but Koen simply rode back to Mechelen along Johan’s route, clocking in a total of 250 (!) kilometres. Impressive!

When Nicolas arrived at 7:30 PM, a few members of the Distrilog cycling team were waiting for him at the finish line, after which some group photos were taken. To close the event, everyone had dinner together in Mechelen and raised a toast to yet another successful edition!

Finally, we would also like to put our sponsors in the spotlight once again, as most of them have been supporting us for several years already: thanks to PRIMAGAZ, GLOBIUS, MIBA, BAHLSEN, MAES, and VOLVO, we were able to gather a large portion of the entry fees to support cancer research and get both our cycling teams to the start of this amazing event.

Besides that, we would also like to thank our numerous supporters at the side of the road during the whole even,t you were amazing! Of course, Distrilog will be back next year with two cycling teams to support cancer research!
Because together, we pedal cancer out of this world!
