Distrilog Group Raises Awareness of Truck Blind Spots Among 170 Schoolchildren in Willebroek
On Monday 12 and Thursday 15 October, Distrilog Group contributed to improving road safety for young road users. In collaboration with the municipality of Willebroek, we provided 170 pupils from several primary schools with a hands-on lesson about truck blind spots.
Discovering Blind Spots First-Hand
As a transport and logistics company, trucks play an important role in our daily operations. However, we also recognise how important it is to raise awareness among other road users about the risks associated with large vehicles. That is why we enthusiastically participated in the blind spot awareness initiative organised by the municipality of Willebroek.
On Monday 12 October, we welcomed four classes: two from Sancta Maria Primary School and two from Tovertuin Primary School. On Thursday 15 October, we even opened the doors of our own site at Victor Dumonlaan 40 in Willebroek, where we welcomed pupils from Himo Primary School. In the afternoon, pupils from 't Venneke also had the opportunity to discover truck blind spots up close.
Behind the Wheel of a Truck
During the sessions, pupils had the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a truck themselves. This allowed them to experience just how limited a driver's visibility can sometimes be and discover which areas around the vehicle are difficult or even impossible to see.
Our drivers explained how they use mirrors and cameras to monitor their surroundings and showed the children how to stay safe as cyclists or pedestrians near trucks.
Through this initiative, we hope to have provided the children not only with an educational experience, but above all with valuable insights that will help them stay safe on the road.
