Distrilog celebrates first anniversary of Safety Sam

Distrilog implemented many safety related initiatives over the past year. We introduced our Safety Sam mascot and have been organising toolbox meetings every month for the past twelve months. Our managers, drivers and warehouse staff also received extensive safety training.

One year of Safety Sam

Our Safety Sam mascot was introduced one year ago. Every month our site manager highlights various safety issues concerning incidents, 10 Golden Rules, Last Minute Risk Analysis and safe use of rolling stock. This gives our employees a clear overview of the meaning of the documents displayed on the board and how they should be applied in practice.

Management training

In addition to Safety Sam, we also provided Level III prevention advisor training for our managers, introducing them to the seven welfare domains from the Codex on Well-being at Work.

All our warehouse managers also participated in the AG Insurance Safety Performance Programme, which taught them how to assess and evaluate hazards and risks in the warehouse. They were also instructed on how to conduct a safety dialogue with employees in an appropriate manner.

Driver and warehouse staff training

Our 380 drivers received in-depth theoretical and practical safety training, including instructions on what to do in the event of an accident and, more importantly, how to avoid them. During the practical exercises participants practised correctly coupling and uncoupling a trailer, loading and unloading pallets using electric pallet trucks, as well as how to adopt an ergonomic sitting position in the truck cabin.

Finally, all our warehouse staff attended a Rolling Stock refresher course. Our employees practised manoeuvring forklifts and trans pallets within a previously arranged track layout.
