35 years of Distrilog: from paper to smart technology

19-06-2026

In honour of 35 years Distrilog, we look back at the evolution of our transport planning. Today our company is a highly digitalised environment, but this looked very different in the past. In the very beginning, planning was managed entirely on paper. Over the years, Distrilog has consistently invested in technology to work more efficiently and better support our employees.

A major step in this digital transformation came in 2008 with the introduction of TAS and Transics. TAS has since formed the foundation of our transport planning. Through this system, planners determine which drivers, chassis and trailers are deployed and which assignments must be carried out. At the same time, Transics was introduced, allowing planners to follow the execution of trips in real time. Drivers register their activities via the onboard computer, while planners gain visibility on locations, routes driven and job progress. In addition, Transics enables direct communication between planners and drivers through messaging.

New technologies

The transport sector continues to evolve. Distrilog keeps investing in new technologies to further optimise processes. Since April 2025, we have been using PTV OptiFlow, an advanced route planning system that generates a planning proposal in seconds based on orders and available working hours. The system takes into account various factors such as region, load weight, work pace and drivers’ language skills. After review by a transport planner, this planning is sent to TAS.

In our Full Truck Load division, planners have recently started using Hyperfox, an AI tool that automates the processing of order forms. When a customer sends an order form, Hyperfox automatically reads and validates the document. After review and approval by a planning employee, the data is forwarded to the underlying system TDC. This converts the data into a job in TAS. At the moment, an additional check is still carried out, but once the model is sufficiently trained, this process will become largely automated.

Digitalisation is not limited to Distrilog alone. Since 2025, Transport Michiels has become part of Distrilog Group. From September 2026, TAS and Transics will also be implemented there. To make this possible, our garage in Westmeerbeek is installing all onboard computers. Thanks to this integration, we will gain a global overview of all planning and drivers across our sites. This makes our transport department even more flexible, with more possibilities to deploy drivers efficiently and absorb peak periods.

From paper-based planning to AI-driven applications: the evolution of the past 35 years shows how Distrilog continues to invest in innovation. With systems such as TAS, Transics, OptiFlow, and Hyperfox, we are building a more efficient, future-oriented transport organisation that is ready for the challenges of tomorrow.
