Distrilog cycles 1000 kilometres to the benefit of Kom op tegen Kanker.
After months of preparation behind the scenes and bike training on sometimes rain-soaked courses, this (extended) weekend was finally here: the start for the 1000 kilometres for Kom op tegen Kanker was given on the Grote Markt in Mechelen, loudly cheered on by the numerous fans. Distrilog started with no fewer than 2 teams, following last year's overwhelming success.
The principle of the 1000km is quite simple. In the morning the cyclists leave Mechelen in the direction of an ‘afternoon city', have something to eat there and then ride back to Mechelen. This way, the cyclists cover 250 kilometres a day, so 1000 kilometres over four days. This year the afternoon cities were Glabbeek, Aalst, Pelt and Oostkamp. The cyclists could also choose the speed at which they liked to cycle, in the pack of course: 24, 27 or even 30 km/h.
As you can see, the sun was out all weekend to guide our cyclists. Stan, Ruben, Korneel, Nicolas, Jeroen, Philip, Johan, Brent, Jeroen, Ruben and Kurt enjoyed the weather, the bike course and the excellent KOTK organisation, only to appear satisfied after 125 kilometres.
